The Ninth International Congress of Vitivinicultural Terroirs will take place from Monday, June 25th to Friday, June 29th, 2012 in Dijon (Burgundy) and Reims (Champagne).

This multidisciplinary scientific meeting on the concept of ‘Terroir’ in the sphere of vine and wine is held every two years. Since its first edition in 1996 (Angers, France), the Congress of Vitivinicultural Terroirs has gone from strength to strength, as shown by the events held in Italy (1998 and 2010), Spain (2000), France (2002 and 2006), South Africa (2004), and Switzerland (2008). It brings together around 200 scientists from all over the world, along with professionals from the vine and wine industry.

The topics selected for this Ninth International Congress of Vitivinicultural Terroirs are key terms in the definition of ‘Vitivinicultural Terroir’, as adopted by the OIV resolution in 2010: four scientific sessions will focus on the physical environment (soil, climate and topography), the biological environment (plant material, soil microbiology and vineyard biodiversity) and the interactions between the two. The key concept of specific space will be discussed during a session on technical zoning and a session on the types of Terroirs around the world. The human aspect will also be addressed, focusing specifically on viticultural practices, collective knowledge and the valorisation of Terroirs through their products and landscapes.

The  Ninth International Congress of Vitivinicultural Terroirs is held under the high patronage of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine.
